Fire in Perm, Russia

On Saturday, December 5, a fire broke out in a night club in Perm claiming the lives of over 146 people. One week later, over 80 people still remained hospitalized. This tragic event has shaken the city of Perm and the people of Russia.
Prime Minister Vladimir Putin flew into Perm the next day to visit the site of the fire, and then proceeded to initiate criminal charges against the owners of the night club and those involved in organizing the event. The Mayor of Perm has submitted his resignation along with the members of the regional government. Numerous fire safety officials have already been fired on corruption charges in connection with the tragic fire.
An investigative committee has said that 48 children lost one parent in the fire, while 15 children have lost both parents.
It has been determined that the high number of deaths in the fire was because the club was in violation of the fire code and there was only one exit available for over 300 people trying to flee the fire.

Everything under Scrutiny

As a result of the fire, a city wide investigation has begun and federal officials have decided to inspect every building in Perm where children or large numbers of people may gather. It is only a matter of time before they come to inspect our Youth With a Mission building.
For the last few months (before the fire), we have been working on a plan to bring our facilities up to fire code, as this is one aspect of our building that we know has never been completed.
We have made some progress on the fire safety project, but we remain extra cautious until we are able to ensure full compliance with Russian fire safety regulations. To ignore this requirement, would be a violation of fire code and could jeopardize the future of our mission.

We need to upgrade

We desire to continue reaching our city for Christ, but in order for us to continue serving the children, youth, and families of this nation we must immediately upgrade our facilities to exceed the fire safety standards of the Russian Federation.
Hundreds of children, young people, and students pass through the YWAM Perm Missions Center every year. Many young minds are being lead to the Lord and discipled for Christ. Our building serves as the focal point for many ministries including visiting the terminally ill, evangelism in remote villages, working in orphanages, and Kids Club. We have even been able to supply regular humanitarian aid to the poorest families in our neighborhood.
This year we are hoping to host more camps for children, partner with local churches to train children, continue our Kids Club ministry, and reach more of the children of Russia with the Gospel. Through our ministries we are making an eternal impact on many young lives!

We need your help

Would you prayerfully consider partnering with us so that we can continue to use our facilities in the way that God has called us. We want to stand before the governing authorities transparent and adhere to the laws of the land.
