Here are some tips when it comes to renting in Perm:

* If you can pay more than first and last month's rent up front, the landlord may be open to letting the flat at a lower monthly price. For instance, you can shave off $25-$50 a month if you pay anywhere from six months' to one years' rent in advance.

Older units do not have these measures, therefore, you may wind up paying more for your utilities at the end of month. Instead of paying for what you personally used, you pay the following: (the price of what everyone in the entire complex used divided by the number of people in the complex) multiplied by the number of individuals in your unit. So, if your neighbors use tons more water that you do, for example, you'll pay a higher average for that utility than you would if your water was metered for your personal use.

* Some landlords are new at leasing their units and frighten easy at the mere mention of a potential foreign tenant. Do not be surprised if they withdraw their offer upon introduction. There are others who have dealt with foreigners and had a more positive experience than had they rented to a local! Just keep looking until you find your match.
