Fire in Perm, Russia
On Saturday, December 5, a fire broke out in a night club in Perm claiming the lives of over 146 people. One week later, over 80 people still remained hospitalized. This tragic event has shaken the city of Perm and the people of Russia.
Prime Minister Vladimir Putin flew into Perm the next day to visit the site of the fire, and then proceeded to initiate criminal charges against the owners of the night club and those involved in organizing the event. The Mayor of Perm has submitted his resignation along with the members of the regional government. Numerous fire safety officials have already been fired on corruption charges in connection with the tragic fire.
An investigative committee has said that 48 children lost one parent in the fire, while 15 children have lost both parents.
It has been determined that the high number of deaths in the fire was because the club was in violation of the fire code and there was only one exit available for over 300 people trying to flee the fire.
